The setting for the track competitions
from August 19 to 22, 2007
The stadium ,located at Bordeaux-Lac, simply stands for the track of world records! A place that can seat from 4500 to 6000 onlookers, depending on the configuration of the inside, with reception rooms, a press room, a direct access by highway and a convenient car park.
At the heart of the district of Bordeaux-Lac
From the previous marshes now fully mastered, the town hall council of Bordeaux set out in the sixties an atypical district that gradually developed around a vast expanse of water covering 400 acres. Since then, life has organized itself around this lake which naturally gave its name to this very place combining an outstanding natural environment together with major buildings of the conurbation. The arrival of the tramway line (as far as les Aubiers by February 2008 and later on as far as the Fair Hall premises) will greatly improve its access by means of public transport and consequently its link with downtown.
A highly touristic district
Here are gathered the Fair Hall, the Congress Hall, many hotels, a Casino, and the Vélodrome Stadium. This group of quality buildings enables Bordeaux to host both national and international meetings and thus stand among the business and leisure activities that matter. Considering the statistics of 2006, with a rise of 15 percent compared to the previous year, the district has become an all the more favoured district as it takes advantage of an exceptional landscape scenery within wide open spaces.
Outstanding natural sites
The green banks of the Lake are an invitation to walking and relaxing, surrounded as they are by less known landscapes and a great flora variety.
The floral park extends over 65 acres around the water expanse. An amphitheatre of greenery that includes a quarter mile long man-made river, with some 300 tons of pebbles and stones brought from Argelès-Gazost in the Pyrenees. Eleven world gardens, dedicated to the cities twinned with Bordeaux, alternate terraces and olive trees, Moroccan, Japanese, English gardens… A park known for its flora: 65 varieties of peonies, 180 sorts of irises, 150 varieties of rhododendrons and many magnolias. Without forgetting the history of the rose narrated in a rose garden covering 5000 square meters.
The forest of Bordeaux. Some 300 acres of man-made forest , the last 2500 plantations of which were made by the town schoolchildren: twenty different sorts of maple trees, together with birch-trees, ten varieties of pine, beech , chestnut, fern, sequoia trees.
