The road competition itinerary is located at Villenave d’Ornon, a town in a near southern suburb of Bordeaux. It covers 9.9 km (6.18 miles) with a shorter loop of 4.5 km (2.8 miles) enabling more frequent passages on the finish line at the beginning of the race, thus offering more opportunities for the onlookers.
Drawn by François Bidou, in charge of the sports commission with Michel Thèze’s guidance, he being the Federal Technical Manager, this itinerary was validated by Louis Barbeau of the International Cycling Union (UCI).
It does correspond to Paracycling without too severe difficulties, yet nevertheless enabling good performances for well trained athletes.
Among other characteristics, this itinerary is located on the land of one of the best vineyards of the “Graves” territory known the world over. Thus, the cyclists will use roads lined by the vineyards of such places as Smith Haut-Lafitte, Carbonnieux, La Louvrière, Le Thil, Trigant, and so on…
